For the obsessive

Maine Home Heating Oil Prices, from an oil company in Maine, lets us know that since some people can't afford 100 gallons at a time ($300 or so), they will deliver as little as 50 gallons.

First fill up!

I'm new to the Northeast, and one of the exciting new experiences is oil heat. Heating oil comes from refining crude oil, just like gasoline does, and so it costs about the same amount per gallon as gasoline, which is at near-record highs. Multiply $3 per gallon by a 200+ gallon tank, and you're talking a lot of money. We just got our tank filled, and you can see the result.

All of which is to say that we're keeping the thermostat way down.

Oh, and I learned that the guy who delivered the oil had an ancestor who came over on the Mayflower - now that's a New England experience.
